I must admit I was slightly skeptical about refilling my own ink cartridge on my HP printer. I read an online article on the subject and it stated that sometimes mixed results can be expected. Then the article went on to explain why replacement cartridges cost so much. When you buy a new cartridge you are paying for a new print head mechanism which is an integral part of the actual cartridge. The ink itself is really cheap. So that made sense to me. But at close to $50 just for a new color cartridge, I was willing to give this ink refill kit a try. Especially since my HP printer is nearly 6 years old, I figured I had nothing to loose.
Well the kit itself is very straight forward and includes very concise and well detailed instructions with illustrations, written in several languages no less. Since I was only running very low on the cyan (red) color, injecting that color alone into my cartridge only took a couple of minutes. The instructions advise to only refill those colors that are known to be running low and to avoid overfilling. It is also advised that you should not allow any color to completely deplete or it may be difficult to refill properly. When you are finished injecting instructed quantities of the color(s) into the proper holes on the cartridge you then finish up the process by extracting a small quantity of ink through a hole on the bottom of the cartridge with a syringe specifically designed for this purpose. This final step is to "prime" the cartridge to insure that the ink is flowing through all three chambers within the cartridge.
After finishing this operation I then re-inserted the cartridge back into my printer ran a clean printer cart. operation through the printer preferences services menu and presto I was back in business.
After printing 4 sheets (cheap satin finish copy paper) of a total of 16 different color photos on best quality, though not maximum dpi, I can confidently say that the color accuracy looks very good.
This kit claims to refill a cartridge 8 times. The only concern that I have is that according to the above article that I read concerning refill kits, it mentioned that ink cartridges do have a limited lifespan and that a cartridge head will eventually wear-out. If you continue to run a cartridge with a worn-out head in your printer, the article stated that it is possible that your printer might become damaged. That said, in my case if I get even 3 or 4 more uses out of the cartridge using this re-fill kit before my printer bites the dust I will be more than happy given the age of my printer. $11 beats
$100-$200 worth of new cartridges any day!

One of the 3 large black cartridges straight up didn't work because the "CHIP" isn't mounted on the cartridge properly. My printer wouldn't recognize it at all. All the others that I have tried are very flaky about being inserted. You sometimes have to insert them over and over and wiggle them around to get them to work. Also, the Canon software doesn't show all of the information about the ink levels like it does with OEM cartridges. However, once you get something printed, the colors do look pretty good.

Ultimately, these are so much cheaper than the genuine cartridges that if you don't mind jacking with the printer and having a few duds, it's a pretty good deal.

This review is for both the #4 and #5 Lexmark ink cartridges. I have a Lexmark x4690 printer and the #'s 4 (black) and 5 (color) are the only ones that can be used for this printer. So for the last 5 years, that's what I've been using and everything prints fine. Recently I've started printing photographs and have tried the #31 (color photo, also the only one recommended for my printer), and is inserted in #4's regular slot to be used it with the #5. With this combination, the #5 is used up much quicker than its regular, normal output, but I've also noticed that there isn't any discernible difference, to me anyway, if I still use the #4 with the #5 when printing photos instead of the 31. #5's yield is definitely better that way. And since the 31's are more expensive, that's what I'll be doing after I use up my 31's. In the meantime, for regular printing, both the #'s 4 and 5 work just how they're supposed to. I haven't had any problems in all this time. That's good for me since those are the only black and color cartridges my printer accepts and they are supposed to be used together, although you can override the printer and use only the #4 is you run out of 5's. Hmm, I wonder if it works the other way, using only the 5 w/o the 4? I haven't tried that. I think I will. Later.

I purchased this product for use in an Epson Workforce 310. So far I have been pleased with outcome. The cartridges are well constructed and have good color consistency. The only difference I have noticed when compared to Epson brand cartridges is that upon initial insertion the recharging (machine recognition) process takes a bit longer.
